Jetpack Joyride Takes Google Play Users For A Spin

The team behind the addictive fruit-slashing game Fruit Ninja and its many variants have finally brought Jetpack Joyride to Google Play.

This game had been available on the iOS App Store since last year, and recognized by Pocket Gamer as the Best Action/Arcade Game of 2012 and the Overall Game of the Year of 2012, by Gamasutra as Mobile Game of 2011, by Game Revolution as the Best Mobile Game of 2011, and by TUAW as the Best iPhone Game of 2011, among others. It also arrived on Facebook earlier this year. A few weeks ago, it was made available as a Kindle Fire?exclusive, as well.

Jetpack Joyride lets its users take on the role of Barry Steakfries, who breaks into a secret laboratory to seize a bunch jetpacks from the villains.

Gamers simply have to tap the screen repeatedly to make Barry Steakfries move up and down the screen while wearing the experimental jetpacks and avoiding lasers and rockets. During the start of the game, Barry wears a machine gun jetpack. Later, however, gamers will be able to choose from other kinds of jetpacks available in The Stash after collecting coins and accomplishing missions. There are also vehicle pickups to help Barry along the way, such as the Crazy Freaking Teleporter, Profit Bird, and Lil? Stomper.

The game has a size of 30M, and requires a minimum of Android 2.2 to work on Android devices. It has a low maturity content rating and currently has a rating of 4.7 on Google Play.

Jetpack Joyride is free to download, and does not force users to purchase items during the gameplay.

Halfbrick Studios also has another Barry Steakfries game called Age of Zombies. This Xperia Play-optimized game, unlike Jetpack Joyride, costs $1.02 to download.

Jetpack Joyride may be downloaded from this link.

We Test Batteries At NorthShore Automotive & RV Repair In Federal Way

Today?s Federal Way vehicles have more electrical components and do-dads than ever before. This really strains your electrical system, making it hard for the battery to keep up. Think about it: electric seats, seat heaters, power locks, windows and sun roofs. And then we have all the power outlets for our cell phones, computers, and DVD players. We also have navigation systems and powerful stereos.

Plus there are all the truck engine and transmission computers, traction control, stability control, anti-lock brakes, sensors and on and on. Even the security system is running off the battery while the car is turned off. And of course, summer heat can take a real toll on battery life.

Fortunately, battery technology has given Federal Way drivers resilient batteries that are able to meet these strenuous requirements.
But the fact is; truck batteries just wear out over time. Eventually, every battery gets to the point where it cannot hold enough of a charge to start your car. Sometimes batteries need to be replaced because they have developed a leak.

Replacement batteries come in all shapes and sizes. Some Federal Way cars have limited space that requires a specially shaped battery to fit. Larger truck engines require more powerful batteries to get them started. If you live in a cold climate you will need a more powerful battery because engines are harder to start when it is cold.

In WA, batteries come in ?good?, ?better?, and ?best? grades. More expensive batteries may have a longer warranty and are guaranteed to last longer. As with most things Federal Way auto owners need to purchase to keep their cars in good condition, paying a little more up front saves money in the long run. Ask your knowledgeable NorthShore Automotive & RV Repair service advisor to test your battery and advise you on how much life it has left.

At NorthShore Automotive & RV Repair, we also offer air conditioning service, alignment and transfer case service.

NBC's Ali Arouzi answers reader questions from Iran

While Iran?s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traded verbal jabs at the United Nations General Assembly this week over the threat of Iran?s nuclear capability, one thing is for sure: international economic sanctions against Iran are having an impact.?

The United States, European Union and the U.N. have imposed tough economic sanctions against Iran, blocking access to the international banking system and curbing sales of Iranian crude oil as a way to persuade Tehran to abandon its nuclear program.

As Ali Arouzi, NBC News Tehran Correspondent, reports today, the sanctions have had a real impact on Iranians as the value of their currency, the rial, continues to drop daily ? affecting everything from basic food items to manufacturing.

Iranian: 'Our money is becoming more and more worthless every day'

Ali answered reader questions about the impact of the sanctions in Iran earlier today.

FCC votes in favor of rethinking spectrum holding rules, goading broadcasters into wireless selloffs

    Cellular tower worker

FCC meetings can be momentous occasions under the right circumstances, although it's seldom the case that we see the agency pass two potentially far-reaching measures in one sitting, like we just saw on Friday. To start, regulators have voted in favor of a proposal that will review spectrum sale rules and might drop the case-by-case determinations in favor of a more consistent screening mechanism. The reexamination will also consider a change to the ownership rules surrounding wireless frequencies that treats bands below 1GHz differently than those above -- the better to address a chorus of smaller carriers that don't like all the prime spectrum going to the companies with the most existing clout, namely AT&T and Verizon. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski argues that reform could spur innovation through more competition, although dissenting Commissioner Robert McDowell is worried that consistent rules will somehow create "uncertainty."

Side-by-side with the review, the FCC is proposing an incentive-based reverse auction strategy to have TV broadcasters voluntarily give up their spectrum for cellular and data use. The multi-phase approach would have TV providers set the price at which they're willing to sell their spectrum to the FCC; those that just can't bear to part with their airwaves would be corralled into a tighter band range to make for larger available frequency blocks in the auction that follows. As with other FCC proposals, there's likely to be a long interval between the auction vote, the review and any definitive rulemaking, let alone an impact -- auctions by themselves can take years to play out. Still, any success with the measures could head off spectrum crunches while simultaneously preventing any solutions from consolidating too much power and creating their own problems.

What are the Penalties for Identity Theft in ... - Maryland Law Blog

MD Identity Theft PenaltiesAccording to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), identity theft refers to any type of crime in which someone wrongfully obtains and uses another?s personal data in some way that involves fraud or deception, and typically is done for economic gain.

Maryland state law prohibits several types of identity theft, and the following are three forms deemed illegal under state law and the penalties for each:

    1. False identification: MD state law prohibits the offer, sale, or issue of a document or identification card that contains any blank space that would allow a person to alter his or her age, address, or date of birth. If a person is found guilty, they may face a prison sentence and/or be ordered to pay thousands of dollars in penalties. It is also illegal to alter a government-issued identification card or use an I.D. card not issued to him/her, and this may be punishable by up to six months in prison.
    2. Payment and credit card fraud: It is illegal for a person to make a false written statement concerning another person?s identity for the purpose of obtaining a credit card. One may also be charged with credit card fraud if a credit card is taken or used without another?s consent, as well as if a person finds a lost credit card and chooses to use it or gives it to another individual.
    3. Scanning devices: Maryland state laws make it illegal to use/possess a scanning device or re-encoder that can be used to copy sensitive financial information from the magnetic strip of any payment card. Even if the device is not used but a person is found in possession of it, this misdemeanor crime can be punished by months in prison and significant fines.

As identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the nation, the state of Maryland takes this crime very seriously and its prosecutors will likely seek the maximum penalties in each case. As such, it is imperative you have legal assistance from the California theft lawyers at the law firm of Alpert Schreyer to help you fight your charges and avoid excessive penalties. To see how we can provide you with excellent legal representation in your case, call (800) 489-1577.

Learning to overcome fear is difficult for teens

ScienceDaily (Sep. 27, 2012) ? A new study by Weill Cornell Medical College researchers shows that adolescents' reactions to threat remain high even when the danger is no longer present. According to researchers, once a teenager's brain is triggered by a threat, the ability to suppress an emotional response to the threat is diminished which may explain the peak in anxiety and stress-related disorders during this developmental period.

The study, published Sept. 17 in the early online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), is the first to decode fear acquisition and fear "extinction learning," down to the synaptic level in the brains of mice, which mirror human neuronal networks. Also, through human and rodent experiments, the study finds that acquired fear can be difficult to extinguish in some adolescents. By contrast, the study shows that adults and children do not have the same trouble learning when a threat is no longer present.

"This is the first study to show, in an experiment, that adolescent humans have diminished fear extinction learning," says the study's lead author, Dr. Siobhan S. Pattwell, a postdoctoral fellow at the Sackler Institute for Developmental Psychobiology at Weill Cornell. "Our findings are important because they might explain why epidemiologists have found that anxiety disorders seem to spike during adolescence or just before adolescence. It is estimated that over 75 percent of adults with fear-related disorders can trace the roots of their anxiety to earlier ages."

The study findings suggest there is altered plasticity in the prefrontal cortex of the brain during adolescence, with its inability to overcome fear, says the study's senior co-investigator, Dr. Francis Lee, professor of pharmacology and psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College, and an attending psychiatrist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

"This study is the first to show activity, at the synaptic level, for both fear acquisition and fear extinction -- and we find that while these areas function well in both younger and older mice, neurons involved in fear extinction are not as active in adolescent mice," says Dr. Lee. "If adolescents have a more difficult time learning that something that once frightened them is no longer a danger, then it is clear that the standard desensitization techniques from fear may not work on them. This new knowledge about the teenage brain's synaptic connections not responding optimally will help clinicians understand that the brain region used in fear extinction may not be as efficient during this sensitive developmental period in adolescents."

Adolescent Mice Never Lose Their Fear Response

Fear learning is a highly-adaptive, evolutionarily conserved process that allows one to respond appropriately to cues associated with danger. In the case of psychiatric disorders, however, fear may persist long after a threat has passed, and this unremitting and often debilitating form of fear is a core component of many anxiety disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD).

Existing treatments, such as exposure therapy, are designed to expose an individual slowly to the cues associated with a perceived threat. This technique is used for a variety of fears, from wartime PTSD to fear of flying, as well as serious adolescent anxiety about school, says Dr. Lee, who treats, among others, patients with PTSD acquired during the World Trade Center collapse on September 11, 2001.

Anxiety disorders are increasingly being diagnosed in children and adolescents, but the success rate of fear extinction-based exposure therapies are currently not known in this population. This study aimed to discover if they could be effective -- and why or why not.

The human experiment was conducted at the Sackler Institute for Developmental Psychobiology at Weill Cornell in collaboration with its director, Dr. B.J. Casey, a study senior co-investigator, who is the Sackler Professor of Developmental Psychobiology and professor of psychology in psychiatry at Weill Cornell. In the experiment, a group of volunteers -- children, adolescents and adults -- wore headphones and sweat meters and were asked to look at a computer screen with a sequence of blue or yellow square images. One of the squares was paired with a really unpleasant sound. For example, 50 percent of the time the blue square would set off the noise.

If the participants acquired a fear of the noise, they showed increased sweat when viewing the image that was paired with it, says Dr. Pattwell. The same group was brought back the next day, and again viewed a sequence of blue or yellow squares, but this time there was no associated noise. "But teenagers didn't decrease their fear response, and maintained their fear throughout subsequent trials when no noise was played," she says. However, the researchers documented that, unlike the teens participating in this study aged 12-17, both children and adults quickly learned that neither square was linked to a noxious sound, and this understanding rapidly decreased their fear response.

The mouse experiment, which used standard fear conditioning common in these types of animal studies, obtained similar findings. Adolescent mice (29 days old) did not decrease their fear response to stimuli that no longer existed, but younger and older mice did. Interestingly, the adolescent mice never lost their fear response as they aged.

The research team then monitored the brains of mice as they participated in the experiment. With the assistance of study senior co-investigator, Dr. Ipe Ninan, an electrophysiologist at NYU Langone Medical Center who is an assistant professor of psychiatry, the research team found that the prelimbic region in the prefrontal cortex, the brain region that processes emotion, is activated during acquisition of fear, and the infralimbic prefrontal cortex is used to extinguish this fear association. While other groups have suggested that the prefrontal cortex plays a role in extinction, no one has shown that this activity is at the level of the synapse -- the connections between the neurons.

"In young and old mice, we see plasticity, which is activity in the infralimbic cortex, which helps the animals decrease their fear response when a threat no longer applies," says Dr. Pattwell. "Interestingly, we didn't witness similar activity in adolescent mice."

According to researchers there is much more to explore about the fear response and its decoding in human adolescents, such as whether genes contribute to susceptibility to altered fear learning, and most importantly, what can be done to help the adolescent population overcome fear.

"We need to investigate personalized approaches to treatment of these fear and anxiety disorders in teens," says Dr. Lee. "It is essential that we find a way to help teenagers become more resilient to the fear they experience during adolescence to prevent it from leading to a lifetime of anxiety and depression."

The research was supported by the Sackler Institute, the DeWitt-Wallace Fund of the New York Community Trust, the Irma T. Hirschl/Monique Weill-Caulier Trust, the International Mental Health Research Organization, the Burroughs Wellcome Foundation, the Pritzker Consortium, National Institutes of Health Grants and a Swiss National Science Foundation Grant.

Scientist at Work Blog: Getting Ready for the Storms of the North Pacific

Jim Thomson is principal oceanographer at the Applied Physics Lab at the University of Washington. He studies ocean surface waves and coastal processes.

    Thursday, Sept. 6

Ansel Adams always said that chance favors the prepared, but these days I wonder how far ahead he looked before taking his photos. Four years ago, my lab at the University of Washington started building a new buoy to measure the turbulence in breaking ocean waves. Now the chance to use it is fast approaching. Preparation is foremost on my mind.

Later this fall, we will embark on a research vessel toward an otherwise random spot in the north Pacific Ocean called Station P, more than 1,000 miles offshore. This station has a long history, with regular water samples from there going back 60 years. We?ll be looking for storms and big waves. If the data we have from the past couple years are any indication, we should see waves more than 10 meters (33 feet) high. The new buoys have been tested only in waves up to three meters high. That?s on my mind too.

It?s not like we?ve been avoiding the bigger waves; in fact, we?ve spent two years looking for them. The new instruments, which we call Swift buoys (for Surface Wave Instrument Floats with Tracking), have logged more than 1,300 hours of water time.

We have broken, battered and crushed all manner of things while trying to get these buoys into the roughest conditions possible. We have even capsized a small boat in the process. Indeed, the boat is part of the problem: To operate in big waves, we need a big boat. We need a global-class research vessel, of which there are only a handful in the United States and which cost $30,000 a day. This fall is our chance to use one of these vessels.

We know the waves in November will be big, because we have been measuring them for the past two years at Station P (usually referred to as Papa, according to the phonetic alphabet) with another type of buoy, called a WaveRider. The WaveRider is a recent addition to the station, one that is part of a larger effort to use the station for climate research. The station is 4,200 meters deep ?about 2.6 miles, a vertical distance equivalent to the average morning jog around the neighborhood ? making moorings, and everything else, difficult. The WaveRider mooring needs to be replaced, and that is the other goal of the trip. Another thing to prepare for.

Preparing involves a lot of incremental tasks. Yesterday was mundane: Joe was spooling mooring line at the warehouse, Alex was assembling a camera system to record waves from the bow of the ship, Mike was processing test data, and I was obsessively checking the satellite feed from the WaveRider (the battery is dying and thus always on my mind). Spare parts, fasteners and batteries were constantly arriving and being sorted according to a giant packing list. The lab was humming along at a reasonable, steady pace, and we were on schedule to go to sea in seven weeks.

Today, however, was not mundane. This morning, the ship coordinator called to say that the ship?s propulsion system had failed (chance?) and the necessary repairs would take the rest of 2012.

I braced for the worst ? we?re being canceled?

?Not yet,? was the reply from the fleet coordinator. Then: ?Let me see what the rest of the fleet has lined up.?

A few hours later, a salvage proposal came back. We could take a smaller vessel, departing three weeks from today, not seven. I said we would take it.

That reasonable, steady pace just left the building. To depart in three weeks means we send a shipping container with our equipment in one week.

Tomorrow, preparing will rapidly turn to packing. By Sept. 26, we will be ready. Then chance will drive the storms, and we will be driving ourselves ? to do more, to sleep less, to stay sharp amid the dark seas, and to make the most of our chance.

This guide shows how you can install and run a Small Business Server with ClearOS 6.3.0 (Community Edition). With ClearOS, you can run various services (such as a file- and print server, a web proxy and content filter, a mail server, etc.) in your local network and manage them through an easy web interface. ClearOS provides apps for each of these tasks from its marketplace - many of them are free, some of them have to be paid for. ClearOS Community is open-source and free. There's also a professional version available for which you have to pay, but which in return provides better support, better tested apps and updates, etc.

I do not issue any guarantee that this will work for you!

    ?

    1 Preliminary Note

In this tutorial I use the hostname server1.example.com with the IP address 192.168.0.100. These settings might differ for you, so you have to replace them where appropriate.

ClearOS is based on RHEL/CentOS, so you might be familiar with its installer already.

    ?

    2 Installing ClearOS 6.3.0

Download the ClearOS 6.3 Community ISO image from http://www.clearfoundation.com/Software/downloads.html, burn it onto a CD, and boot from it. Select Install or upgrade an existing system:

The welcome screen of the ClearOS installer appears. Click on Next:

    Choose your language next:

    Select your keyboard layout:

I assume that you use a locally attached hard drive, so you should select Basic Storage Devices here:

You might see the following warning - The storage device may contain data. If you see this click on the Yes, discard any data button to proceed:

Fill in the hostname of the server (e.g. server1.example.com), then click on the Configure Network button:

Go to the Wired tab, select the network interface (probably eth0) and click on Edit...:

Mark the Connect automatically checkbox and go to the IPv4 Settings tab and select Manual in the Method drop-down menu. Fill in one, two, or three nameservers (separated by comma) in the DNS servers field (e.g. 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4), then click on the Add button next to the Addresses area. Now give your network card a static IP address and netmask (in this tutorial I'm using the IP address 192.168.0.100 and netmask 255.255.255.0 or 24 for demonstration purposes; if you are not sure about the right values, http://www.subnetmask.info might help you). Also fill in your gateway (e.g. 192.168.0.1) and click on the Apply... button:

The network configuration is now finished. Click on the Next button:

    Choose your time zone:

    Give root a password:

Next we do the partitioning. Select Replace Existing Linux System(s). This will give you a small /boot partition and a large / partition which is fine for our purposes:

    Select Write changes to disk:

The hard drive is being formatted, and the installation begins. This will take a few minutes:

Finally, the installation is complete, and you can remove your CD from the computer and reboot it:

    After the first reboot...

... you will see the following screen which tells you to use a browser to configure ClearOS and which URL to use to connect to the ClearOS web interface (https://192.168.0.100:81 in this case):

a new opinion in Computer about Apple iPad 3 Wi-Fi 16 GB

The iPad 3 is without doubt the best iPad yet. This is a brilliant product that will have you spending ours on. It has many features such as the camera which is very, very good. The iPad itself comes in two different colors (Black or White). The iPad itself looks very stylish and cool. The most annoying thing with Apple products is the fact that it doesn't have Java. Another slight problem that i have with this product is how heavy it is, i wish it was a lot lighter than it is. The speakers are very good, though it isn't as loud as i would have thought considering the size of the tablet. Another downside of this product is the price, is it really worth so much? In my honest opinion i would say no, considering the amount of time i use the product. But overall it's a nice product to have.

    Summary: Good product

How to be a top dog negotiator - Blog.Commbank

Having great negotiating skills can help you in all arenas of life and in your most important relationships, including business. But these are not skills we are generally taught at school or even?at work. So how can you be a great negotiator?

    1.?Get clear on the?objectives

Usually we know what we want out of a situation. The key thing to remember about negotiating is to focus on the other?person?s interests ? rather than their position. Let?s take a look at how this works.

Assume you?re trying to negotiate with your partner to take an expensive holiday. They are initially opposed because they don?t want to spend the money. This is your partner?s position.

But you both agree you really need a break, to recharge your batteries, reconnect with each other and get a little rest and relaxation. These are your interests.

Instead of trying to convince your partner to spend a lot of money on a holiday ? that is, shift their position ? try focus on appealing to their interests. So the idea is to talk to them about the benefits it will bring to their health, wellbeing and your relationship when you?re trying to convince them that it?s a great idea to fly to Fiji for a week!

Indeed, business etiquette expert Danielle Di-Masi, principal Click! Training and Consulting, says when it comes to being a great negotiator, it?s essential to be clear about your own ? as well as the counterparty?s ? objectives in the exchange.

?People go into a negotiation situation saying ?I want X?, but they don?t think about the most important element ? which is how to get to where you want to be,? Di-Masi advises.

    ?2. Understand both sides

?It?s really important to think about the information you will need to get what you want. For instance, if you want a pay rise but the business is going through a round of budget cuts, negotiating for what you want is all about being clear about the value you bring to the business in a downturn situation. You need to be really prepared and understand both side?s objectives,? she advises.

Di-Masi says learning how to be a good negotiator is essentially about understanding how to be influential. ?In life we negotiate everything ? even with ourselves. For example, we might say ?I won?t have an entr?e so I can have a dessert?. And it?s also important to remember that most successful negotiations involve a win-win for both sides.?

    3. See the bigger picture

Another critical factor in a successful negotiation is being able to see the bigger picture. For instance, you might be pitching for a $5,000 contract. If you know the business has some short-term cash flow issues and you?re prepared to drop your fee slightly, you may be able to maintain a long-term relationship with this client and increase your fee when their cash situation improves, all because you have been prepared to see the bigger picture.

    4. Be calm and prepared

Finally, says Di-Masi, managing nerves and anxiety is another factor that will help to ensure a smooth negotiation.

?This is all about great preparation. If you are well prepared and clear about your objectives, then you can go into a negotiation with the attitude that it?s just another meeting. Never forget to calibrate the situation, focus on rational thoughts and keep the bigger picture in mind. And if you?re asked questions you don?t have the answer to, don?t feel you have to respond immediately. It?s perfectly acceptable to come back with responses or a counter offer a little later down the track,? she advises.

How To Create Killer Sales Funnels For Your MLM Business

I hope you are ready to get really excited because this content is going to help you create multiple, effective sales funnels for your mlm business?

NOTE: You can scroll down this post to watch the 4 videos I created about how to create killer sales funnels for your business and skip over my explanation of what is a sales funnel and why you want one for your business.?

    What is a sales funnel?

A sales funnel is a process you take your prospects through where they make small commitments that continue to get bigger and bigger until a sale is made. Often multiple sales soon follow and/or a continuity program where the prospects sings up for a monthly membership (or autoship) and you gain a long term customer or distributor..

But I already have a website? why do I want/need a sales funnel??

    I hear this a lot.

    Let me be clear.

Everyone has a website these days. It is easier than ever for Joe Shmo to put up a website and be ?in business.?

Even the best website in the world doesn?t do you any good if you don?t have traffic. AKA, a steady flow of potential buyers visiting your website. This post is not specifically about how to get more traffic to your website. I have a system for that and you can learn about it right here.

    Here?s the problem

Most MLM companies have websites that are designed to sell products. That is their primary function..

but what if your customer is not interested in your product(s) at that time for whatever reason? If they don?t buy right there and then they are often lost and you lose that potential customer forever? A few weeks later when they are ready to buy they do a google search for your products and end up buying from the competition?

Stay with me on this, this part is huge!

A sales funnel is designed to take your prospects through a process that starts with them ?opting in? with their name and email and sometimes phone number. In other words, basic contact information. Its a small commitment. Its them, basically raising their hands and saying, yes, I would like some more information and I?m willing to give you my contact information in return for it.

So picture this scenario? You send a thousand prospects to your MLM company replicated website. A few of them like the products and you make some sales and some commissions. Lets say you sell get 10 buyers and from those 10 buyers you make $400. Not bad. but for the work involved in getting that much traffic it may or may not have been worth your time or money.

Scenario #2 is that you have a sales funnel that starts with an opt in page for generating leads. Your page converts at 15%. So with the same number of website vistors from the first scenario, which is 1,000 visitors, you generate 150 leads. 10 of them become customers right off the bat just like in the first scenario and you make $400. Your drip email campaign converts 25 more sales over the course of the next 2 months. You now have 35 paying customers. 25 of which you would have otherwise lost because they were not ready to buy when they first visited your website. 6 months later you still have 115 prospects on your list and you do a promotion for some training or a webinar and you get another 14 buyers.

Do you see how it makes more LONG TERM sense to have a sales funnel in place instead of just a website that sells a few products?
